A Firefly campaign to map youth-friendly opportunities across the Bay & Basin
Our Bay & Basin community has so much to offer young people, but sometimes, it’s hard to see the full picture.
That’s why Firefly is launching “Spotlight on What’s Here for Young People”, a 7-week social media campaign designed to showcase local services, groups, spaces, and opportunities that support, inspire, and connect young people.
Each week, we’ll shine a light on a different slice of community life — from sport and creativity to wellbeing, learning, and the great outdoors — and ask:
What do you know that should be on the map?
We’re building this together, one tag, comment, or suggestion at a time. Your input is crucial to the success of this campaign.
“This campaign is all about making local opportunities more visible to young people — and creating a shared picture of what’s already here. When we know what exists, we can connect, grow and build from it. This is the kind of community-building work that we can all be a part of” Gemma Hart, Youth Engagement Worker (Firefly)
What is the campaign all about?
Spotlight on What’s Here for Young People is part of Firefly’s wider work with Community Voice. It aims to:
- Highlight and celebrate existing services and support for young people.
- Help young people and families discover opportunities in their local area.
- Create a vibrant, evolving Community Asset Map that reflects the strengths of the Bay & Basin community.
The final digital map, built from community input, will be released after the campaign concludes. We hope it will become a go-to resource for young people, families, schools, and community workers alike. Over time, we’ll keep the map updated to reflect changes, new programs, and community ideas, fostering a sense of hope and optimism for the future.
Not on social media? You can still join in.
We’ve created a short SurveyMonkey form for anyone who wants to contribute to the map offline – https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/L758V2Q
For instance, you could tell us about any youth-friendly groups, services, or spaces that should be included. Think about sports clubs, art groups, wellbeing programs, outdoor activities, or anything else that helps young people feel connected and supported.
Why it matters
When young people can see what’s on offer locally, they’re more likely to get involved, try something new, or find the support they need.
We want this map to reflect the real assets of our community — the people, places, and programs already doing great work for young people.
And we want young people to feel proud of what’s here, and hopeful about what’s possible.
Together, we can shine a light on what’s here — and make it even better.
How You Can Contribute
We’re asking the whole community, regardless of age or background, to share their knowledge and contribute to this campaign.
