Celebrating Creativity, Community and Youth Voice
Since 2023, Firefly Bay and Basin have proudly partnered with Sanctuary Point Community Pride (SPCP) to deliver the annual Spring into Sanctuary Point Poster Competition. This creative initiative brings together local young people, families, and the broader community to celebrate everything that makes Sanctuary Point special.
The collaboration began when SPCP contacted Firefly to help connect with young people in the Bay and Basin area to design a poster to promote their annual community fair, Spring into Sanctuary Point. With Firefly’s connections to local schools and youth networks, it was a natural fit, and the results have been nothing short of inspiring.
A Platform for Young Creatives
Each year, the poster competition invites children and young people aged 5–18 to design a poster that captures the fair’s annual theme. The winning design is used to promote the event across the region, from shop windows to social media, giving young artists a genuine platform for creative expression.
We are incredibly proud of the creativity, care and community spirit reflected in every poster submission. Each design tells a story of artistic talent and a deep love for place and connection.
Poster Judging & Prizes
The major prizes are carefully selected by a panel of Firefly Bay and Basin staff and the Sanctuary Point Community Pride Committee. This expert panel ensures a fair and thoughtful process by evaluating entries based on:
- Creativity
- Adherence to the annual theme
- Effectiveness in promoting the event and/or key messages
Judges consider visual appeal, message clarity, and how well each entry connects with the intended audience. After independent voting and open discussion, winners are chosen by consensus.
Prizes Include:
- Overall Winner
- Highly Commended (Primary School division)
- Highly Commended (High School division)
- People’s Choice Award
Past Winners & Posters
Since 2023, we’ve seen dozens of entries featuring vibrant illustrations, heartfelt messages, and imaginative interpretations of Sanctuary Point and its people. Winning designs are displayed at the fair and shared widely across social media and community channels, becoming an important part of the event’s identity.
About the Collaboration
The partnership between Firefly Bay and Basin and Sanctuary Point Community Pride is built on a shared vision: to uplift and engage the local community, especially its youngest members. Working together has allowed us to expand the competition’s reach, offer workshops, and increase visibility for young voices in public spaces.
We are honoured to work alongside SPCP each year to make this initiative bigger, brighter, and more inclusive — and to give young people the opportunity to shape how their community is seen and celebrated.
