Creativity took center stage this year with the installation of a vibrant mural at the Sanctuary Point Skate Park. This project, conceptualised by local youth and painted by professional street artist Muchos, has transformed the skate park into a hub of artistic expression and community pride. The community has well received the mural and is now an asset to the area.

Curious and Creative: Sparking Imagination and Connection

This year, Curious and Creative provided a platform for young people to explore their creativity, learn life skills, and connect with their peers in a fun and supportive environment. In partnership with The Sage Caravan, OzHarvest, and other community groups, participants took part in a variety of workshops and activities:

  • Drumbeat: Led by local musician and music teacher Megan Kovalik, the students participated in the DRUMBEAT program, an 8-week program that uses rhythm as a tool to build resilience and emotional regulation.
  • Cooking with OzHarvest: Students learned to prepare nutritious meals while exploring the importance of reducing food waste.
  • The Sage Caravan Sessions: Through storytelling, art, and hands-on activities, students found new ways to express themselves and build confidence. These sessions underscored the power of creativity to bring people together and inspire positive change.
  • Christmas Crafting Extravaganza: Participants created festive decorations and gifts, spreading holiday cheer and celebrating community spirit.

Youth Voice Jr.: Inspiring the Next Generation

During Terms 3 and 4, Christine and Maiki piloted Youth Voice Jr. at Sanctuary Point Public School, introducing younger students to the Community Minded Kids Program. Building on the foundations of the Youth Voice initiative at Vincentia High School, this program guided students through research, presentation, and project management phases.

One student shared, “I learned how small changes can make a big difference in our community!”
