On Saturday, 16 May 2026, Firefly teamed up with Be the Vibe to host a lively sports and wellbeing day at Wreck Bay Oval. It turned out to be a fantastic day for everyone involved.

The weather was perfect as 25 young people from the community came together for a day filled with play, connection, and participation. The oval soon filled with movement, laughter, and smiles, making it a welcoming place for everyone.

The event was open to primary school-aged children and their younger siblings. It was inspiring to see the younger kids confidently join their brothers, sisters, and cousins. Moments like thes

A Day Full of Activity and Energy

The Be the Vibe team led a program that included Oztag, soccer, and team-building games, all meant to be inclusive and fun. Everyone got involved, whether they were trying something new or building on their skills.

Every activity brought the same high energy, but many participants said the colour run was their favourite part of the day.

A Colour Run to Remember

The colour run brought excitement to the whole oval. As everyone raced through the course, clouds of coloured powder filled the air and created a bright, playful atmosphere.

There was plenty of laughter, bursts of energy, and many memorable moments as young people enjoyed the colour run. Even those watching from the sidelines had fun. While the wider community cheered on the run, their support added to the day’s energy.

While the run left everyone with great memories,  the last challenge of the day was figuring out how to get the colour out of our clothes!

Food, Connection and Community Spirit

Food helped bring everyone together. Everyone enjoyed fresh fruit, muesli bars, and sausage sandwiches, which were a big hit with the young people and families. Special thanks go to the Shoalhaven Central Uniting Church for providing morning tea, refreshments, and bread for the Community BBQ. Thanks also to Wreck Bay Aboriginal Community Council (WBACC) for the lend of their brand new BBQ and various equipment and the Australian Federal Police (AFP) who joined in, cooked, and spent time with young people and community members.

Creating Opportunities for Young People

Events like Be the Vibe reflect Firefly’s commitment to giving young people across the Bay and Basin positive, inclusive, and free opportunities to gather, be active, and enjoy themselves.

Whether it’s learning a new sport, making friends, or just enjoying the outdoors, these events create meaningful experiences that help everyone feel better and strengthen community ties.

After last year’s successful Be the Vibe event in Vincentia and the great energy at Wreck Bay, we hope to host another event for the Bay and Basin community.
