Connecting Community: More Than Just a Theme

Exploring what "Connecting Community" means through the lens of Spring into Sanctuary Point and this year's poster competition theme.
Connecting community

When we think about community, we often think about the people who live around us. But community is much more than a place, it is the connections that bring people together.

Those connections might be found through a local sporting club, a community event, volunteering, a creative group, a support service, a school, or simply a neighbour lending a helping hand. Every connection helps create a stronger, more vibrant community where people feel included, supported and valued.

That spirit of connection is at the heart of Spring into Sanctuary Point and the inspiration behind this year’s Poster Competition theme: Connecting Community.

As Sanctuary Point Community Pride explains:

“Spring into Sanctuary Point showcases the services, facilities and groups that make our community thrive. By connecting residents with local organisations, clubs and support services, we create opportunities for participation, belonging and meaningful social connections, helping to reduce isolation and strengthen our community.”

– Sanctuary Point Community Pride

This quote highlights something many of us experience every day: communities thrive when people are connected to opportunities, activities and one another.

For some people, that connection might come through joining a sporting team. For others, it could be attending a local event, volunteering their time, participating in an arts program, connecting with support services, or simply making new friends in the community.

The Connecting Community Poster Competition invites young people to explore these ideas through art and creativity.

What Does Connecting Community Mean to You?

Your poster might show:

  • Friends coming together through sport or recreation
  • Community events that bring people together
  • Local organisations supporting residents
  • Volunteers making a difference
  • Different generations connecting and learning from one another
  • Neighbours helping neighbours
  • People working together to care for the environment
  • The many groups, services and activities that make Sanctuary Point a great place to live

There is no right or wrong interpretation because every person’s experience of community is unique.

We encourage young artists to think about the people, places and experiences that help them feel connected and inspired. Your artwork could celebrate the connections that already exist or imagine new ways our community can grow stronger together.
