Building on a year of youth-led change

The Bay & Basin Youth Crew is back for 2026 and local young people aged 11–18 are invited to step up, speak out and help shape the future of youth opportunities across Sanctuary Point and the wider Bay & Basin.
After a big first year of ideas, action and youth leadership, the Youth Crew is growing and we’re excited to welcome new members for the next chapter.
In 2025, the inaugural Youth Crew brought together a group of passionate young people from across the Bay & Basin who wanted to make their community better for other young people. Through workshops, conversations and hands-on activities, they explored what life is really like for local youth — what’s working, what’s missing and what could be stronger.
What followed was powerful.
When young people were given space, trust and support, they stepped up with thoughtful ideas, honest insights and real solutions.
Now, we’re building on that momentum.
The next chapter starts here
Firefly Bay & Basin is recruiting new members aged 11–18 to join the 2026 Youth Crew and help turn ideas into action.
This year’s Crew will work together to shape projects, priorities and opportunities that matter most to young people in our region from events and activities to bigger conversations about youth voice and leadership.
As Natasha Busbridge, Community Impact Strategy Coordinator at Firefly Bay & Basin, shares:

Who can join?
If you’re aged 11–18 and live, learn or spend time in the Bay & Basin, you’re welcome.
You don’t need experience.
You don’t need to be super confident.
You don’t need to be the loudest person in the room.
The Youth Crew is for everyone, whether you’re quiet, creative, sporty, thoughtful, curious or simply keen to make things better.
If you’ve ever thought, “There’s nothing for young people to do around here” or “Someone should change this” this is your chance to be that someone.
Why get involved?
Being part of the Youth Crew means you’ll:
- Build leadership skills and confidence through fun, tailored workshops
- Meet other young people who care about their community
- Help design and influence youth projects and initiatives
- Shape events and activities in the area
- Enjoy free food, snacks and drinks at every meeting
- Most importantly, have your voice heard and taken seriously
It’s about learning, connecting and creating change together.
What’s involved?
Successful applicants will commit to:
- Occasional training days
- Monthly two-hour after-school meetings throughout 2026
- Fun, creative and meaningful activities across the year
