Youth Voice Takes on Sydney: A Trip to Remember!

In March, a fantastic group of Vincentia High School students from the Youth Voice Project set off on an adventure to Sydney! This trip allowed our amazing changemakers to connect, learn, and get inspired.

A Packed Itinerary of Fun and Learning

The journey kicked off with an early morning departure for Sydney. Our first stop was at Ferguson Hall, located in the heart of St. Stephens Uniting Church on Macquarie Street, where they completed their Community Minded Kids training. The students had the chance to explore this beautiful historic church and learn about the power of community action.

Banish the Waste!

After lunch, we visited Banish in Haymarket, where we learned about recycling and how small changes can have a considerable impact. Our group pitched in to help sort tough-to-recycle materials, turning waste into something more meaningful. It was an eye-opening experience, and our young leaders left with some new eco-friendly skills!

Dinner with a View + A Show to Remember

After visiting Banish, the group checked into the YHA Central and then headed to Circular Quay for a magical evening. Dinner with a view of the iconic Harbour Bridge was a perfect way to fuel up before heading to the Opera House. The group was treated to The 20-Sided Tavern—an interactive, fun-filled theatre performance that left everyone laughing.

State Youth Leadership Conference

Friday was about leadership at the State Youth Leadership Conference in Darling Harbour. The YLAA’s Youth Leadership Conference is designed to give students the skills and confidence to become leaders in their communities—and boy, did they get that and more! The day was packed with inspirational speakers and exciting activities that kept everyone buzzing with ideas and enthusiasm.

Looking Ahead

We have noted that this trip has motivated our Youth Voice participants as they delve into the Youth Voice Project. They’ve returned with fresh ideas, motivation, and a drive to create positive change.

A massive thank you to everyone who helped make this trip happen—our incredible young leaders, the awesome teaching staff Ms. Blundell, Mr. Crossman, and Ms. Taylor, and the Firefly team—Kasey, Maiki, Ashlee, Liz, Tash, and Christine. You all helped make this trip unforgettable!

Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to amplify youth voices and spark change in our region!
