New video celebrates real community impact, driven by young people
On Thursday, 22 May 2025, we premiered our second Youth Voice video, “Youth Voice 2024 | Real Change, Real Voices,” at Vincentia High School to an intimate and lively crowd of past and present participants, teachers, staff, family members, and visitors from PLACE Australia.
Held in the performance space at Vincentia High School, the screening was a special opportunity to reflect on the incredible work of the 2024 Youth Voice crew. The video showcased the journey of young people who turned their bold ideas into real-world community projects, with results.

Laughter, Bobbing, and… a Camel?
The audience was engaged from start to finish – bobbing along to the soundtrack and breaking into laughter during light-hearted moments, especially when a surprise photo of Christine being licked by a camel appeared on screen. It was a joyful celebration of hard work and progress.
Q&A with Past Participants
Following the screening, several of the young changemakers, now Youth Voice Project Alumni, shared their insights during a Q&A session.
- Jasmine, Phoebe and Caitlyn spoke about their work on the BMX track revitalisation project.
- Lani reflected on the Creative Spaces Project.
- Ashlee Allen, a recent graduate of Vincentia High School, discussed the evolution of the Breakfast Club initiative.
Their reflections brought depth and honesty to the event.
“It felt weird seeing myself on screen, but also really proud. We actually made something happen.” – Youth Voice Participant
“It was scary at first, but I loved being part of something that made a real difference.” – Youth Voice Participant
While some cringed at seeing themselves on film, the overwhelming feeling was pride at what they had accomplished and gratitude for being part of something meaningful.
The key message of the video is clear: with the right support, young people can bring about meaningful and lasting change in their community. Compared to our first Youth Voice video, which introduced the initiative, this second chapter shines a light on the actual outcomes, from initial pitches to real, tangible achievements.
Created once again by the talented videographer Harry Keilly, this 20-minute film is a powerful reflection on what’s possible when youth voices are not only heard but also acted upon.
“It’s amazing seeing all the hard work that went into the project be celebrated. It was great reflecting on where they started and where they ended.”
