Youth Collective Workshop at Vincentia High School

Youth Collective Workshop (1000 x 500 mm)

In a world where young voices are often overlooked, the Youth Collective workshop at Vincentia High School provided an important platform for students to express their ideas and influence their community. On 30 July 2024, Firefly hosted this vibrant workshop, bringing together students to discuss how young people can collaborate with local community groups to voice their perspectives on community matters that affect them. The event aimed to amplify youth voices in conversations about organising community events, improving facilities, and supporting youth-led initiatives.

Youth Collective Workshop Highlights

The day began with food provided by the canteen, followed by an exploration of key questions by the students and the Firefly team:

  • What would make you interested in joining the Youth Collective?
  • What are the challenges or obstacles to joining and participating in a Youth Collective?
  • How would you like to share your perspectives, feedback, and input back to the community if you were part of the Youth Collective?

The workshop buzzed with energy as students eagerly engaged in group discussions, sharing their thoughts and ideas. The students then worked in groups to discuss and workshop their answers.

We were thrilled to have the high school’s support for this important workshop. Special thanks go to Anna in the canteen for providing the food and to the students themselves, who participated enthusiastically. It was fantastic for the Firefly team to meet so many new faces from a diverse group of students ranging from Year 7 to Year 11.

Impact and Takeaways

The Youth Collective workshop not only gave young people the opportunity to participate in a broader discussion but also provided valuable insights that will guide Firefly in its future efforts to engage with youth.
