The Youth Crew is a group of local young people who come together to share ideas, build leadership skills, and help shape projects, services, and opportunities for young people across the Bay & Basin. If you’ve ever thought things could be better — or wanted your voice to actually count — this is your chance.

What Is the Bay & Basin Youth Crew?
The Youth Crew is Firefly’s Youth Advisory Group, made up of young people from across the Bay & Basin region who want to be involved in decisions that affect their lives.
Supported by Firefly Bay & Basin, the Crew provides a genuine platform for youth voice — not just consultation, but real participation, shared learning, and collective action.
Youth Crew members bring their lived experience, ideas, and perspectives to help guide youth-focused work in the community and explore what young people need to thrive.
What the Youth Crew Has Achieved So Far
The first year of the Bay & Basin Youth Crew laid strong foundations.
Emerging from the momentum of Firefly’s Youth Collective workshops and a growing community call for youth-led decision-making, the inaugural Crew came together in 2025 following a region-wide expression of interest process.
Over the year, Youth Crew members have:
- Taken part in foundational leadership and advocacy training, co-facilitated by Firefly and Sonder Youth
- Developed skills in communication, collaboration, leadership, and speaking up
- Explored what young people in the Bay & Basin need, what’s working well, and where gaps still exist
- Contributed insights that are helping inform broader community conversations and future planning
Most importantly, the Crew has helped demonstrate what’s possible when young people are trusted with meaningful roles and supported to lead.
What the Youth Crew Does
Youth Crew members:
- Advise Firefly and community partners on youth projects and services
- Share ideas and feedback to improve opportunities for local young people
- Co-design events and activities alongside Firefly and the community
- Advocate for issues that matter to young people in the Bay & Basin
This isn’t a token seat at the table. It’s about real contribution, shared responsibility, and building confidence to take ideas into the wider world.
Who Can Join?
We’re looking for young people aged 11–18 who live, learn, or spend time in the Bay & Basin area.
You don’t need experience or confidence to apply. We welcome young people who are:
- Quiet or loud
- Creative, sporty, thoughtful, or curious
- Unsure where they fit — or ready to jump in
What matters most is that you care about your community and are willing to have a go.
The Youth Crew is inclusive and open to young people of all backgrounds, abilities, and experiences.
What’s Involved?
If selected, Youth Crew members will be asked to commit to:
- Monthly after-school meetings
- Occasional training days throughout the year
- A mix of creative, collaborative, and fun activities
And yes — food is provided at every meeting.
