Bloom Program

Firefly’s work in the Bay and Basin is based on listening to the community and developing solutions together. The community sought increased support for young people throughout adolescence, particularly during the pre- and post-pandemic periods of COVID-19.

In response to this, the Firefly team developed the Bloom program for delivery in Term 4 of 2020 and repeated it in Term 3 of 2021. This program aimed to support girls in Years 5 and 6 at primary school by adding tools to their personal toolkits to help build resilience, self-esteem, well-being, kindness, healthy relationships, gratitude, goal-setting, and mindfulness.

The seven-week program linked with skilled community members to help support the delivery of each workshop. Some of these activities were floristry, painting, origami, and exercise methods.

Bloom had participation and support from several students from across the Bay and Basin public schools.
