Firefly’s Youth Crew has been busy planning a creative community activity for this year’s Spring into Sanctuary Point, with members coming together at the September Youth Crew meeting to develop ideas and prepare for the event. During the meeting, members explored different stall activities and participated in a hands-on art session, which inspired the group’s final concept for the festival.
The Youth Crew will be hosting a community stall where visitors of all ages will be invited to contribute to a collaborative artwork. The project is designed to bring people together through creativity, providing an opportunity for community members to connect, express themselves, and become part of a shared piece of art that reflects the spirit of the Bay and Basin.
Youth Crew members are now preparing materials and organising a working bee ahead of the event to ensure the activity is ready for the community to enjoy. The stall will offer a welcoming space where families, young people, and residents can get creative, meet members of the Youth Crew, and learn more about the projects and opportunities available through the program.

Looking Ahead to 2027
During the meeting, members also explored what they would like the Youth Crew to become known for in the future. Ideas included:
- Helping people in the community
- Creating positive impact
- Being a safe and welcoming space for young people
- Running more community events and activities
- Building stronger connections with local organisations
Members also discussed new ideas for future projects, including community events, creative workshops, fundraising activities and partnerships with other local groups.
Free Teen Mental Health First Aid Training Still Open
The meeting also included an update on the upcoming Teen Mental Health First Aid training, with many Youth Crew members already registered to attend.
There are still places available for young people who would like to participate.
This free training helps young people build confidence in recognising when someone may be experiencing a mental health challenge, how to start supportive conversations, and where to encourage friends to seek professional help when needed.
If you’re interested in participating, registrations remain open. We encourage young people to secure their place before sessions begin next week.
