We’re thrilled to announce the launch of the 2023 Poster Design Competition for the highly anticipated Spring into Sanctuary Point Street Festival. Presented by Sanctuary Point Community Pride Inc. in collaboration with Firefly Bay and Basin, this year’s competition promises to be even more captivating than before. We’re calling on the talented local youth aged 10-18 years to highlight their creativity and design skills by crafting compelling posters that will become the face of the festival.

Mark your calendars for the festival, set to take place on Saturday, 21st October 2023, in Sanctuary Point. It’s an incredible opportunity to contribute to the community’s excitement and make a lasting impact with your artistic talent.

We are on the lookout for imaginative individuals who can create designs that resonate with the community. The winning design will not only receive recognition as the official festival poster but also be awarded a $200 gift card. To participate, simply design your poster using graphic design software and submit your entry no later than Friday, 25th August 2023.

Competition Details

Who can enter the competition?

Young people between 10 and 18 who live in the Bay and Basin are invited to enter the competition.

What are the prizes?

Competition Winner categories:

  • Overall Winner -The winner will receive a $200 Visa gift card.
  • Highly Commended 10 to 13 years – the recipient will receive a $50 Visa gift card.
  • Highly commended 14 to 18 years – the recipient will receive a $50 Visa gift card.
  • People’s Choice Award – the recipient will win a $50 Visa gift card.

No cash alternative to the prizes will be offered. Prizes are non-transferable. The Promoter’s decision in respect to all matters to do with the competition will be final, and no correspondence will be entered.

What is the goal of the poster?

To promote ‘Spring into Sanctuary Point Street Festival,’ get people to come to the event and build pride in our community. The festival will be held on Saturday, 21st October 2023. This is an annual festival run by Sanctuary Point Community Pride Inc. The festival includes live entertainment, food, information stalls, and activities.

We would like the poster to be bright and cheery, with clear text.

What is the theme of the poster?

Suggested themes for the poster are:

  • Springtime – plants and flowers, new life/life cycles, pastel and bright colours, bugs, and insects
  • Street Festival – bright colours, party
  • Fair – music, jumping castle, stalls
  • Community – people gathering, coming together, supporting each other, soft colours, and images.
What size is the poster?

The poster must be A3 portrait size (297 x 420 mm/4961 x 3508 px)

What needs to be included on the poster?

Must include the following

  • Event title: “Spring into Sanctuary Point Street Festival”
  • Date: “21st October 2023”
  • Time: “9 am to 1 pm”
  • Venue: “Paradise Beach Road, Sanctuary Point”

The following logos need to be included:

  • Sanctuary Point Community Pride Inc.
  • Firefly Bay and Basin
  • Headspace
  • Shoalhaven City Council.

What else can I include?

You can include additional wording or images that help to promote the activities at the event. You can include a Call to Action or include the following words. This is optional.

What colours can I use?

You can use any colour you like; just make sure it is readable.

Sanctuary Point Community Pride’s colours are as follows; you are welcome to use them or any that match the theme of your poster.

What font can I use?

You can use any font you like; make sure it is readable. Remember to use different size fonts to emphasise key information.

Where will the poster be shared?

The poster will be shared on social media, in local cafés, on billboards, in newsletters, and at the event.

Why does the poster have to be made using graphic design software?

We ask designers to create their posters using Canva, Adobe Express, Illustrator or InDesign, Visme, Google Slides, or comparable products so we can easily share and reformat them. Signs can be hand-drawn but must be digitised as part of the submission process.

How do I register my interest?

You can register your interest via the button at the top of this page. You will be added to our database, and we can send you reminders closer to the due date.

What is the due date?

Submission closes at 6.00 pm on Friday, 25th August. After this date, no further entries to the competition will be permitted.

How do I submit my poster?

To submit your entry, please email your completed poster to info@fireflybayandbasin.com with the subject heading “Poster Competition.”

Please name your file according to the format: Name (first name surname), Age (for example, MarkSmith10), and version number (if multiple entries are submitted). You can submit multiple entries; please attach each entry/poster as individual files.

NB: Include your name, age, and contact details.

How will I know if I won?

The winner will be notified via phone and email. The winning poster will be advertised on the Sanctuary Point Community Pride’s Facebook page.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Sanctuary Point Community Pride’s Poster Competition is designed to inspire local youth (10 – 18 years) to engage with their wider community. It is hoped that this experience provides participants with the opportunity to engage and feel included in their local community. There will be an overall winner, two highly commended prizes, and one People’s Choice Award. The overall winner will receive a $200 Visa gift card, Highly Commended recipients and People’s Choice Winner will receive a $50 Visa gift card, and the People’s Choice Award will receive a $50 Visa gift card.

The overall winner will have their A3 poster used to promote the Spring into Sanctuary Point festival, which is being run on 21 October 2023. All entrants will be displayed at the Spring in Sanctuary Point Street Festival.

Poster Format

The format of the competition work should be A3 size in a portrait layout. The poster must be created using graphic design software or hand-drawn and digitized.

Terms and Conditions

When you submit your entry, please include the following information:

  • Your name and age
  • Telephone number and/or email address (this is how we will notify the winners)
  • Parent/Guardian contact details and consent for entry into the competition.

Please name your file according to the format: Name, Age (For example, Mark10)

Closing Date for Entries

Notification

Participants will be notified by email/phone in late August.

2022 Winning Design

The submission from Vincentia High School student Lani Kovalik from Sanctuary Point was named as the top poster design for the inaugural competition. Vying for the first prize of $200 and the use of the design across all official advertising, amongst fifteen other entries from young people ranging from 11 to 15 years old, it was Lani’s digitally illustrated work that caught the eye of the judges.
