Over 4 weeks the Firefly Bay and Basin team and our dedicated volunteers will be running taster sessions to introduce young people to our innovative 2022 programs. The Summer Tasters series includes a kayak safety course (FishFit), drumming circle (DRUMBEAT), painting with a local Aboriginal artist (BLOOM), and a community event at Sanctuary Point Skate Park (Community Events).
Bookings are open for Summer Tasters and the 2022 program.
Firefly Bay and Basin 2022
After listening to the community and exploring solutions, Firefly Bay and Basin will offer local young people between 10-14 years the following programs in 2022:
FishFit: An 8-week after-school fishing group. The course is run by vetted volunteers and participants will learn about all aspects of fishing. Community groups interested in supporting and collaborating with FishFit are welcome to get in touch.
DRUMBEAT: Our dedicated team of community volunteers are completing the extensive DRUMBEAT training. DRUMBEAT incorporates hand drumming, behavioural therapeutic principles, and cognitive and dialectical elements to achieve positive outcomes. This course will be run throughout 2022 at schools and community centres.
Bloom Where You Are Planted: Bloom is an 8-week resilience-building program focused on girls in school years 5 and 6. The program allows participants to build community connections while exploring resilience-themed activities. The 2-hour sessions are delivered in an after-school environment once a week.
Community Events: Firefly will collaborate with the community to host or support various community events in 2022 and ensure young people feel connected to their community.
Partnerships and collaborations: Sonder Youth’s Changemakers program is coming in term 1 and Creative Starz Youth Theatre term and school holiday programs will continue.
